Increasing the Value of Your Home Through Flooring

Your floors are an often overlooked but very important part of your home. Dirty, tattered, outdated or ugly floors can make your home look far less attractive and valuable than it may be. In contrast, beautiful and well kept floors give your home a special sparkle. It is especially important to pay attention to your flooring if you are thinking about selling your home. By installing clean and beautiful new floors, you can increase the value of your home far more than the cost of your flooring. My background as a real estate agent has taught me what potential buyers want in floors, and now I'm going to teach you. Make your home all it can be with floors that say your home is the best.

Tile Cleaning: Go Natural This Spring

Isabella Bennett

Instead of using strong chemicals this spring when you clean your tile and grout, try a more natural and less chemical approach. Natural cleaners get the job done just as well as more traditional chemical cleaners. You just get to skip out on the strong-smelling fumes while on the way to clean tile.

Lemon Juice Tile Cleaner

This tile cleaning recipe uses natural ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. The lemon juice in this cleaner will help brighten your tile and remove any stains that have developed. Plus, the addition of lemon juice will give you that just-cleaned smell that you are used to.

  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 2/3 cup vinegar
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 5 cups warm water
  • large spray bottle

Add the lemon juice, vinegar and baking soda to the large spray bottle first. You may want to use a funnel to add these ingredients. Gently shake these ingredients together.

Then add enough warm water to fill the large spray bottle to the top. This generally takes about 4 to 5 cups of warm water depending on how large of a spray bottle you purchased. You can purchase large cleaning spray bottles at most dollar stores.

To use this cleaner, you just need to spray it on your tile and grout. Then, let the cleaner soak into the tile and grout for about ten minutes. Go back over the area you sprayed with a scrub brush. Scrub in a circular motion to remove the dirt.

Once you are done scrubbing, rinse off the solution and dirt with some warm water.

Vinegar Mildew Killer

If for some reason, mildew has developed on your tiles, you can also take care of that with a vinegar based cleaner.

  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup tea tree essential oil
  • small spray bottle

All you need to do is pour the vinegar and tea tree oil into a small spray bottle and gently swirl the container to mix the ingredients together.

Vinegar is a natural and easy way to kill both mold and mildew. However, it can have a really strong smell, which is where the tea tree essential oil comes in.

The tea tree oil will offset the strong smell of vinegar. It also has anti-fungal and antibacterial proprieties of its own, so the addition of it to your vinegar will increase the mildew and mold killing properties of this mixture.

Just spray it on the affected area and let it soak in for about half an hour. Then come back and scrub it. If the solution has dried too much, spray the area again before you scrub. Wash the area with water after you are done cleaning.

Both of these simple solutions will effectively clean your tile and grout, and get rid of any mold, without any nasty chemical smells. So what are you waiting for? Make these solutions and start cleaning your tile today!
